We are fortunate to have a wide selection of museums in Houston to visit and enjoy. This is the second of a series of posts about that selection.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science was established in 1909. It includes four floors of exhibition halls, an IMAX theatre, a butterfly center & a planetarium. It is an amazing place to visit - plan to spend several hours there to enjoy the many offerings.
A to the Houston Museum of Natural Science yesterday by a team member was shared with us this morning. They began by visiting The Science of Wonder - Magic! It was a walk through tour featuring a variety of magicians and their tricks. Of course, one of the most fascinating was Harry Houdini & his many contraptions that were used in his daring escapes. Along with the displays of magic devices were videos demonstrating their uses. And the big finish at the finale was a magic shop for you to purchase tricks and begin your journey to becoming a magician yourself!

The Cockrell Butterfly Center was also an exciting experience. This is a 3-story glass structure with a 50-foot waterfall and simulated tropical rainforest. Visitors are surrounded by living butterflies! They are beautiful and they are everywhere - maybe even on your shoulder if you are lucky! A new resident of the Cockrell Butterfly Center is Charro the Green Iguana. He is gorgeous and while currently he is in a cage, eventually the hope is that Charro will be acclimated & able to wander freely in the rainforest. Inside are displays of insects - both fascinating and repelling at the same time!

Cinco de Mayo Guacamole Recipe / Susan Brown, Your Texas Connection, Keller Williams Realty
Here is a recipe for the delicious-looking guacamole shown on Today by Ingrid Hoffman. I am making it later today for Cinco de Mayo. Along with chips & a margarita - it's sure to be a great celebration!
- 2 medium Hass avocados, halved, seeded & peeled
- 1 C tomatillos, finely chopped
- 1/2 C red onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 C mango, seeded & peeled, finely diced
- 2 serrano chiles, finely chopped (seeded & ribbed for less heat)
- 2 T chopped fresh cilantro leaves
- 1 T chopped fresh mint
- Juice of 1/2 a lemon
- Salt to taste
Mash the avocados in a medium bowl until the texture is semi-smooth. Gently stir in the tomatillos, onion, mango, chiles, cilantro, mint & lemon juice. Taste to salt as desired.

Humble Intercontinental Rotary Club 44th Annual Spaghetti Supper / Susan Brown, Your Texas Connection, Keller Williams Realty
When: Friday, May 7 from 5:00PM to 8:00 PM

hosted by the Humble Intercontinental Rotary Club
This is an all-you-can-eat spaghetti supper (kids eat free) served by volunteer firefighters from the Humble, Atascocita & Porter areas. The Women of Rotary will be selling homemade desserts. And the YMCA will be hosting a kid's corner with fun activities for children.
There will be silent auctions, live auctions and raffles that include a $250 & a $500 gift certificate to Deerbrook Mall. PLUS the Rotarians will be raffling away a car!! Those tickets are $100 each, with a total of 500 tickets being sold. And the winner of the car will have a choice of a vehicle from Robbins Auto Mall, Texan Pontiac GMC Buick, Sterling McCall Honda or Parkway Family Kia/Mazda. The winning ticket is $20,000 toward a car of the winner's choice from any of these dealers.
The proceeds of this event benefit projects sponsored by the Humble Rotary including the Village Learning & Achievement Center, FamilyTime and Humble Area Assistance Ministries (HAAM).
